The Pembroke Hockey Guys
Jim Dorman
May 22, 2016
John was a main cog in our Thursday night hockey hour at Cohasset and Pembroke, playing regularly and organizing events to honor our many members past and present, and even engineering some press coverage from the newspapers and television. Whenever I would see John, like I remember doing at his beloved Boston College, at an Eagles hockey game, he treated me like visiting royalty, regaling my friends with exaggerated stories of my hockey prowess. He was the type of guy that believed in you and made you want be your absolute best. Farewell friend; I'm sorry I lost rack and did not hear of your passing. My condolences to your family.

We're very sorry to hear about John's passing. We always had a great time with John - going out to dinner together, spending my birthday with him in Nantucket and talking with him on the phone all the time. My Dad and I visited him in Clearwater,FL way back in 2001 and we stayed at Lighthouse Towers. We'll miss our going to Outback with our friend, John. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Emmons Family. We'll miss him greatly!

What a pleasure to have known John. He had a kind and generous spirit. He was a great friend of my Dad and Mom. Many wonderful memories of there tailgating days at BC Football games. We were fortunate to have had him attend our Wedding in Vermont and to have enjoyed some visits in Florida over the past few years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Veronica and his entire family. May God bless you and grant you peace.
Sincerely,

I have many fond memories of Uncle John & family that stem well back into
the 1960's, and with tight-fisted grip, I keep those remembrances close at
hand. Those formative years were truly special times for me, and Uncle John
absolutely enhanced them.

Today marks a day of great sadness as family and friends gather to celebrate the life and memories of John.
I interviewed for a job with Johns company thirty-two years ago this week and have been there ever since. You see I am the lucky one he sold his business to and then retired to Florida. So to Veronica, Judy, Susan and Jay please know that everyday I go to work and every night I come home, my days are always a celebration of John for it was he that has given my family what we have today and for that we are forever greatful. We will celebrate his life for all the days of our life to come. Thank you God for John's time he shared with us, Thank you John for all you shared and gave to the countless people you touched and helped along your life's journey.
Rest in peace my friend and mentor for your job here was well done and God has special plans for men like you.

To Jay, Judy, and Susan. I am so sorry to hear of your dad's death. Sue, it meant so much that you and your dad visited him recently. He loved hearing from him again just before he died. I think they had a special 'BC' bond that was rekindled in Cohasset after so many years. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. May you find peace and comfort in the memories and love you shared. - Mary Cotter Engels

Uncle John...I remember him as the "FUN" Uncle. Actually, he reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield in "Caddyshack". The sense of humor, caution to the wind, the zest for life. OK... Golf... A sport, a passion, an avenue to success in business and social relations. Spectacularly utilized to the advantage of all. But... was he SPECIAL? ABSOLUTELY! Special enough for his brother, and his wife, to make a most special son his namesake. Special enough to make me smile with my memories. Because he is not here- Does that mean he stops? ABSOLUTELY NOT! He lives in OUR hearts,OUR spirit and, especially for family, in the very fiber of who WE are. It is now up to US to match the man. Embrace the gift and embrace the possibilities that lie before us. Thanks Uncle John. Love, Billy

Johnny was a special friend for 50 years. We will cherish the "Hockey Puck" inscribed with us in mind that he gave us years ago. He was always the center of conversation and was a unique person that was admired by all. Our multitude of ServiceMaster meetings wouldn't have been the same without him. We were blessed to have him as a friend.

John was a man I greatly admired and I always enjoyed his company while I worked at the Belleview Biltmore. He was a beloved member and friend among the entire staff and fellow membership and I know it won't be the same without him. John remains on my list of favorite people who I have had the honor and pleasure of knowing. God Speed John! Love, Amy

John was a mentor to us all through his love of family and his love of ServiceMaster. We have many fond memories of Johnny and his family including Marge and Veronica. What jokes he could tell.....what mischief he could get into. It is with sadness we say goodbye...but his memories will live with Ken and me forever.

John was a friend and mentor to me thru his work with ServiceMaster. I had the unique opportunity of listening to his many stories of business and golfing. All of them were true because of Johnny's magical smile and charisma. I enjoyed many rounds of golf with my buddy and he will be truly missed. My sincere condolences to all the family of Johnny. God Bless you my friend. Your ServiceMaster buddy can't help but remember your hole in one on this golf course, it was a true memory!

I have had the pleasure of being John's neighbor for several years. I've found him to be a bright, outgoing and educated man. When you spoke with John, he was clearly listening and interested in what you had to say. That is a rare trait these days. John was "one of a kind" and will be greatly missed by Seaside Oaks and the Crystal Beach community as a whole.
