Not sure what to say?

This notice appeared in my email 'in box' this morning. When I saw the name I felt this overwhelming wave of warmth and pure love! I never met 'Dr Erban' in person but from a far away physical location, I could feel his spirit. I credit him for navigating me through the maze of breast cancer treatments back in 1991. A longer story that I hope to share soon. My connection to him was the result of my search for a Dr. Murphy in Boston, aided by the help of directory assistance telephone...

While looking through old paperwork, I came across a beautiful letter he sent to me after treating my mother for cancer at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. I was shocked to find he has passed, He was a great, tender doctor who cared for his patients. He was so kind to us during the period my mother suffered from lung cancer. He did so many things to help us to cope. Along with his brother Stephen we were able to manage the last two years of my mother's life. Rest in Peace...

Dr Erban was my Chief Resident during my internal medicine clerkship at the Philadelphia VA in 1986. I remember him as a brilliant internist, but also very kind and compassionate. A gifted teacher. He also had a great sense of humor. A true gentleman and literally a scholar! What a great role model he was! May he Rest In Peace!

Jack - you inspired me with your wit, and encouraged me to pursue my dreams and passion. Your dedication to improving the lives of others - no matter who they are - is beyond admirable. Your impact - the families and lives you touched, the research you developed, and your own journey through your challenges - will inspire us all for years to come. Thank you for everything you've done. My heartfelt condolences to the entire Erban/Benoit family, and especially to Lisa, Laura, John, and...

So very sad to learn of the passing of Jack. We served together as Chief Residents for the Internal Medicine program at University of Pennsylvania 1986-87. What a wonderful person. A very caring doctor. A great educator. While I was much more the administrative partner in the Chief Resident roles... get it scheduled, get it designed & built kind of guy.... Jack was the heart and soul of the residency program that year. The residents adored him as the wonderful mentor and teacher they...

I first met Jack in the 1980s when I was a medical student and he was a fellow. He had just seen a patient with a blood clot and given his thoroughness, palpated a breast mass, the cancer that was the basis for the patients clot. Little did I know then that he and I would continue our relationship as collaborators in breast cancer research and develop a decades long friendship. At times of stress would would say to each other, "it's only a movie." We would renew our friendship almost...

I just learned of the passing of Dr. Erban and, would like to extend my sincerest condolences to his family. He was an amazing clinician and mentor. I learned a great deal from Dr. Erban during my tenure at TMC. I had the privilege of running into him at a conference at NWH in 2019 and, I was excited to see him again. God bless this kind, warm-hearted and gentle soul. You will be sorely missed by all.

I am so happy to discover these beautiful tributes to such a beautiful, kind, brilliant and dedicated doctoral and human being. Dr. Erban saw me through my bout with breast cancer in 2018, and I felt, like several people mentioned in these loving tributes, that he cared about me as if I were a member of his family. My father, Paul Heller, was a hematologist, whose work Dr. Erban knew. When my father died, I discovered some old letters to him from one of his residents who worked in Dr. Wm....
