John Evans. Where to begin? While, yes, he had a birthdate and a day he passed on, these don't really matter compared with the fullness of the long life he led. And while his accomplishments are many, it's so much more the way he did everything than what he accomplished. John was born and raised...

I worked with John during my tenure as river specialist of COBS in the early 1970s. I remember him as a kind, caring, giant of a man and am very saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.

Loie and Family, we were taken by surprise at news of John's passing. It has been such a long time since we got together here in Evergreen, but we will always remember what a kind and wonderful person John was. Our hearts are with you! Donald and Randy Palmer

He was a mentor and inspiration during my years with Outward Bound. We lost touch when he started with the bank but I heard a story that they put him in harness and on belay to clear a dangerous amount of snow off the bank's sloping roof!

John, the few times we met were always such a pleasure. We still remember our breakfast at El Tovar many years ago.

Loie and Lynn, I love you so much. I have such fond memories from growing up among the Evans - a truly inspiring clan filled with adventure, laughter, and such a deep caring for every life, whether human, raccoon, salamander, or sagebrush. My memories of John will forever bring a smile and inspiration, whether they pop up on a mountain summit or in front of a woodstove on a winter day. I love you!

We are so glad we got to visit and enjoy some quality time with your family this past summer, and for John to share his experiences and love for climbing, rocks and everything outdoors with Parker and Ella. We love and miss you all. Eric, Pamela, Parker and Ella (<-Future geologist thanks to her Uncle John.)

Loie, it saddens us greatly to hear about John's passing. He always was so friendly and kind to Paul and I -- even taking us up Long's peak with ice picks in late fall almost 20 years ago. Best wishes, Katie (Nash) and Paul Suding
