"Big John", my supervisor and friend for over 25 years. Brilliant, innovative, fun, full of surprises, passionate for the research he conducted, exemplary in his findings. Tasted living in multiple flavors; sailing, skiing, carpentry, bee-keeping, motorcycle riding, baking sour dough bread to name a few. Loved his family to a fault. A Southern gentleman who brought joy to many. As Debbie Daugherty stated he was, 'One of a kind'.
Love you, John.

I had the privilege of working for John at USAMRIID. John was one of a kind and I am so glad that I got to know him. May his soul rest in peace and may he watch over his family from above. Prayers and love to his family in their time of grief. Goodbye John, you will be missed.
