John L. Farinha was welcomed by the Lord on October 14, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born on February 8, 1942, in Modesto, California, to Domingos Sr. and Angie Farinha, and lived his entire life in Patterson, where he became a cherished member of the community.
Throughout his 83 years, John earned the love and respect of all who knew him. With every interaction, he radiated warmth and offered wisdom and compassion freely. His presence was a gift to those around him, and his influence touched countless lives in profound and lasting ways.
John attended Northmead School and graduated from Patterson Union High School in 1960. He remained an active and devoted member of his graduating class, participating in numerous reunions over the years and creating elegant and innovative floral arrangements to celebrate these special gatherings with his classmates.
John began his career working alongside his brother Domingos Jr. at Farinha's Floral & Gifts in Patterson. For 46 years, until his retirement at age 72, John's artistic vision and dedication to excellence helped establish Farinha's Floral & Gifts as the premier destination for extraordinary floral arrangements, wonderful gifts, and exemplary customer service. Working with his brother Domingos Jr. (and sister-in-law Jeanne) who managed the business, John's creative talent transformed countless occasions into beautiful memories for the Patterson community. He also enjoyed showcasing his artistic abilities at The Silk Garden gift store in Turlock, California, under owner, Terry Newcomb, where he worked part-time for many years.
John's commitment to his community was evident in his active participation in Patterson's annual Apricot Fiesta, where he played a vital role in decorating floats and stages during the festival's foundation years. He was also an active participant in the Friends of the Church celebration during the city's Apricot Fiesta.
His deep faith was the cornerstone of his life. At Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson, John served as a musical minister, enriching the worship experience for countless parishioners as an active choir member and guitar player. He was also a dedicated member of the Social Ministries Committee, contributing his time and talents to serve those in need. John participated enthusiastically in fundraising efforts for the church and helped set up seder meals and other thematic events. For many years, he lovingly produced banners, garland, and decorations for the church's Harvest Dinner Dance, bringing beauty and celebration to this beloved annual event.
John was close to many family members, friends, and fellow church members, and held a special place in the hearts of his 13 godchildren.
Family was everything to John. He shared an especially close bond with his four brothers, Joe, Domingos Jr., Stanley, and Anthony, his fraternal twin. The five brothers formed an unbreakable bond that shaped John's life and values, and their brotherhood was a testament to loyalty, love, and devotion. John's dedication to family extended beyond his immediate circle—he took great pride in researching and collecting ancestral family information, connecting with relatives in Madeira, Portugal, and the Bermuda Islands to preserve the Farinha and Pacheco family heritages for future generations.
In his leisure time, John found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved playing cards with family and friends, delighting in the camaraderie and friendly competition these gatherings brought. Those who knew John well knew that his favorite color was yellow—a fitting choice for someone who brought such brightness and warmth into the lives of others.
