Nearly 14 years later I am reading John Farrell's obituary. I was a Hotel Syracuse employee from January 1979 to June 1983, and "Mr. Farrell" taught me nearly everything I know of fine food service and the pub hospitality environment of a fine hotel. In my search to see if any former coworkers or bosses were still in the business, I find this announcement and it's obvious that even as I was only 19 years old when I began working at the hotel, even way back then John Farrell was a reputation...

Remembering his many visits to Ireland over the past 50 years we all feel a great loss at this time. Our thoughts are with Aunty Nancy, Cousins Sean, Barbara, Patsy and Pauline and their families at this time. We particularly rememmber Uncle Sean's welcome to our Mum, his sister Mary, on her many visits to the States and how he welcomed each and every one of us on our travels. - "We had a call from Johnny Farrell in Syrecuse" was the regular refrain at hotels on route as we were upgraded...

My thoughts and prayers are with you - I was among the first to meet John when he arrived at the Hotel Syracuse ~ and then the family arrived! We shared lots of laughs (especially when we "borrowed" the large kitchen trays out of the kitchen and Mary Robb & I took all the kids sledding down Thornton hill! (I can still see Patsy's face, having a ball, but scared out of her mind!) Those were the days! It is an honor to have known John. He will be missed. ...
