John was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, while a student at UA. He became friends with my parents through church and came to our house to visit. He showed enormous patience and kindness giving my brother and I rides on his motor scooter. I had a huge crush on him at the tender age of 9 or 10!
