John-Ferguson-Obituary

John Ferguson Sr.

Notices

John Ferguson was born in Vancouver, played eight NHL seasons between 1963 and 1971, all with the Montreal Canadiens, and he helped them win the Stanley Cup five times. What he loved was to win. Losing was what he hated. There was nothing complicated about his game. It was hit first, ask no questions later. He died Saturday of prostate cancer. He was 68.

Not sure what to say?

He was a good friend

JOhn and ted harris were two tough guys...the blackhawks are my team here in chicago, but have many nights of great memories of John Berguson...boy was he tough. luckily we are in the finals in the third game with the flyers...just wanted to let you know that some people are never forgotten ...I'm 69, and lived through the great period of only 6 high quality teams...god bless

Growing up so close, made him seem like family.
Living so far, made him seem like an hero,
A hero that i had alway wished to be like,
Knowing him, made me feel like a star,
When inside we all knew, he was the star,
He was more then a courageous hockey player,
He wasnt only a hero on the ice,
He was my hero in the real world,
He was an amazing man to know,
He always did the right things,
He was brave, loving, caring, funny, pollite, intelligant, respectful, ...

I just found out about John's passing and am sad. As I was growing up, he and the Habs were my heroes. Later, I had the opportunity to get to know him, as a Winnipeg sportscaster. He was always gracious, respectful and kind to me, as was his daughter Chris, who worked in the Jets office. My condolences to Chris and the rest of the Ferguson family.

My deepest condolences. Ah the memories of watching the Canadians at the forum and Fergie always giving his best shot. To many fond memories that touch the heart, soul and mind of some great moments in this great game of hockey and Fergie you made it that much better.

My condolences to the Ferguson family. I have many wonderful memories of watching John play with the great Montreal Canadienes.Truly a wonderful gentleman and hockey player. Harry M Eisenhauer

Fergie was part of "the real gentleman's hockey league." A true gentleman player. That is what my Dad, the late Bobby Frampton, would tell us. Sincere condolences to John Ferguson's family, from the Frampton family.

I was one of the fortunate to watch the other John Ferguson -- the box lacrosse player and coach. His talent with a lacrosse stick in his hand was matched by other greats of his time but never surpassed. The Nanaimo Timberman were truly a team to be reckoned with when John Ferguson was on the floor. The time he spent with minor lacrosse, promoting and teaching the sport to us youngsters was something not to be forgotten. Thanks John.
