John was delightful, thoughtful, funny, and never, ever, run of the mill. And oh my god, his fantastic laugh--sometimes that low Fudd-like chuckle, sometimes that irrepressible laugh that just bubbled out of him. Every conversation, every gathering was better when Ferg was there. I will miss him terribly.

John was the most sincere, kind, unpretentious, and genuine person I have ever met. When you were with him, discussing even the most trivial of topics, you had his full attention. He treated everyone with importance and respect. Such natural courtesy and consideration...

Our hearts are broken. John Ferguson, our friend, an empathetic and generous-hearted man. It seems like yesterday we were laughing together reminiscing about Middlebury days, and suddenly this wrenching loss. Our heartfelt sympathies to all friends and family.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Ferguson family. You have lost a great son, brother, and uncle. Ferg was a good man and I will miss his wit and charm, but most of all his infectious laugh. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
