We knew Dr. John Fernandes when he interned at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal Qc. He was very concerned with appearances and chose his friends carefully. I hope they served him well throughout his life.

I worked with Dr. Fernandes many times over the years. He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable answering questions and teaching as he worked. He always had a way to make you feel special. He was positive and professional and went out of his way to help. He once helped me at a scene, I called for an opinion as resources were stretched - he didn't have to come but he came anyway and was very patient and kind. He will be missed, no one can fill those shoes. I am so grateful our paths...

I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Fernandes when I was a medical student. Over the years between then and now as a staff physician, I have been the recipient of John's mentorship, kindness and encouragement. He was taken much too early but I hope you find comfort knowing that his teaching and interactions with students was influential, appreciated and will leave a lasting legacy. John will be very much missed.

John was a constant bright light in my work life at McMaster and I was so very honoured to be an invited guest at his and Don's beautiful cottage on the lake. My heart broke a little when I heard this horrible news. Wonderful people open their own drawer in your heart ... I will revisit my John drawer many times over the years as he left an indelible impression on me. Massive love sent to Don and all his and John's family and close friends.
