John P. Finnegan

FR. John Finnegan was my first cousin. He was a devoted Catholic Priest and a very intelligent and down to earth gentleman.
He performed the funerals for all my Finnegan's Aunts and Uncles as well as my Mother's and Father's.
He came up to Rockford in 1982 to perform the marriage ceremony for us.
My mother Della Finnegan-Davis was Johnny's Godmother as she
would say.
The cousins picnic in Niles was magnificent.

Fr. Finnegan had the most incredible ability to handle "kerfuffles" that occurred at SMV. He would listen to all and then let it go. His wise technique worked; things always worked out! He didn't have to take sides. He was the ultimate shepherd. He showed his true colors to me as he helped me through a dark time in my life; I will never forget his gentle nature, his warmth, his caring.
