Not sure what to say?

My fondest memory of John was when I first met him in Sunriver. For many of us who were first starting our tennis officiating career, the opportunity to officiate an Adult Sectional event in Sunriver was an honor. For me, the honor was meeting John Flynn. As our Referee, he was a knowledgeable trainer, a humble mentor, and had a fresh sense of humor. John was such a respected Official because he loved the game. He showed honor and respect as an Official which we also learned from him. I wish...

I met John as an 8th grade student learning tennis. 1973. Lol. He saw something in me. He actually picked me up at my house every Sunday to take me to group lessons at the Portland tennis center. I was happy to have him as my English teacher at Rex Putnam in 1974. He was awesome and took me under his wing. I played JV my freshman year, worked hard the next two years and lost in the district tennis finals as a junior in 1976. He was so supportive. I continued on my senior year and won...

I just noticed online that John had passed late last year. When I began teaching at Rex Putnam High School in 1973, John and colleague Wayne Johnston were my mentors. We shared what we were teaching and had great fun during lunchtimes. My wife Donna and I socialized occasionally with John and Carmel as we lived for a while a couple blocks away. John was a good friend and great teacher.

Im so sorry to hear about John´s passing. John was such a great teacher, inspiring hundreds of students and a wonderful friend of many on staff. My condolences to your family.

I knew John in grade school and high school. He was a good guy, and had a quick wit. My condolences to all the family.

I can't even imagine how different my life would be without Mr. Flynn's influence. He gave me some extra tennis opportunities as a freshman, which eventually turned into a passion. 4 years later, he helped get me hired teaching tennis. He even sold me a car for my first year as a high school math teacher 4 years after that. Now it's 30 years later, I'm still playing and coaching tennis and trying to give to others what he gave to me. I'm proud to carry on his tradition and hope I can...

Mr. Flynn was my teacher. He was one of the good ones!

John will be missed in PebbleCreek. Carmel, I am sorry for your loss. May your heart heal in time.

Oh man, Mr Flynn. He was my ap English teacher, as well as my tennis coach. He had the quickest of wits, and very dry sense of humor. He knew how to put me in my place when needed, but did it with such class I didn´t even know how to respond. He tried to teach me to "act like a lady" after I would yell and throw my tennis racket. (I was a terrible tennis player, I just had a terrible temper as well.) That was an impossible task. I will never forget a pun he once used in English class, that I...
