John A. Fortwengler, 77, Anderson, passed away August 21, 2006 at Renaissance Rehabilitation Center of Muncie after an extended illness.

He was born September 8, 1928 in Leavenworth, KS and lived most of his life in Anderson. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and retried from Delco Remy in 1981 after 31 years.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and United Auto Workers Local 662 and was a US Army Veteran.

He is survived by eight children, Katie Fortwengler (fiancé, Joseph Parke) of Anderson, John A. Fortwengler, Jr. of Beech Grove, William (wife, Deborah) Fortwengler of Anderson, Eric (wife, Corinna) Fortwengler of Grand Forks, ND, Randy Gray of Anderson, Jorja (husband, Craig) Wheasler of Anderson, Kirk (wife, Peggy) Gray of Seneca Falls, NY and Tracey Keogh of Anderson; several grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Louise (husband, Earl) Hiday of Pendleton, Mayme (husband, Jack) Ballentine of Anderson, Mary Carpenter of Yorktown and Darlene Simmons of Markleville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Fortwengler; son, Jeffrey A. Fortwengler; sister, Anna Fithian; and brothers, Jim Fortwengler and Bernard Fortwengler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.
