John R. Freeman, 80, of Ellettsville, passed away Monday, November 3, 2014, at Richland Bean Blossom Healthcare. He was born in Owen County on March 7, 1934 to William "Pikey" and Susie (Miller) Freeman. John was a carpenter all of his working life. For many years he worked for the former Don Mitchell Builders of Bloomington. He was a member of the Stinesville Church of the Nazarene and was a founding member of the Owen Valley Volunteer Fire Department. John enjoyed woodworking and singing with many different church choirs. Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife, Sandra (Parrish) Freeman; children, Roger (Jennie) Freeman, Bill Freeman of Vincennes, Brad (Paula) Freeman of Solsberry and Brenda (Bob) Decker of Spencer; siblings, David Freeman of Spencer , Harry Freeman of Martinsville, Martha Shirley of Columbus and Virginia Nunnelly of Sheridan; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Christopher Freeman; siblings, Glenn Freeman, Robert Freeman and Maxine Freeman. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, November 7, 2014 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Pastor Ben Muncie will officiate. Burial will follow at Gross Cemetery.
