I still feel a great affection for John. He was perhaps my best (and my wildest) friend my freshman year at Yale. Hiking around the campus with John was an adventure, and I enjoyed basking in his notoriety as well as our romps and conversation. I don't know if it is "said" in the Legacy, but John had a brilliant verbal mind that expanded to popular culture. forgive me if this message is a duplicate, but I had the sense what I wrote might have been lost uploading, so here it is again. I just found out about John's passing -- very sad. I want people to know: John was one of the most creative verbal entertainers and raconteurs I've ever known. Way off the wall. We were very good friends and hung out constantly in a single year, freshman year at Yale, and John, particularly after he got early publication, came out...

I was a very good friend of John's at Yale, and in New York after graduation. I noticed his name among class members for whom Yale had no address, and one entry on Google turned up his obituary. I'm truly sorry not to have had an opportunity to get in contact with him. He was a truly wonderful man, and had a great influence on campus politics with his writing at the Yale Daily News and on the New Journalism with his reporting for Newsweek.
