John was my idol and my mentor, I´ll never forget the day I met him I thought I was looking at Rambo. He would take me sailing and surfing and take me to the air show at the El Toro marine base and everything was VIP in his Jaguar with the steering wheel on the right hand side. Once he paid me oil every ounce of wood on his 52 foot sailboat and I loved it. Can´t wait to see him again. And I had a dog named Xenia as well go figure :)

Hard to believe so many years since John has passed. I met him in college through his sister Penny, and he would drop in over the years, no matter where I was living, for a surprise visit. I think of him so often and miss those visits. So many fond memories of his sister, two brothers, and their mom.

I pulled a little prank on John in August of 2010. I had stayed with him at his home in LV for months while we worked on a project together. He had an extensive library, which included books written by Dennis Connor about the America II experiences they shared.
When I returned to FL, I looked to buy a book to have him sign, and to my surprise, there was a little bookstore selling a pack of five paperbacks. I bought them and had them here when next he visited.
He was visiting my...

"Rambo" John, myself, Dory Street and John "sing-song" Sangmeister in the support boat
I just thought of John and was looking to see if I could find him and to my shock, found he had passed. I was a team-member with him during the 1995-1997 Stars and Stripes campaign and remember all those times experiencing his "character" and tenacity. "Rambo" as he was aptly named at one point got hit on the head by the boom of Stars and Stripes, right next to me where we were both grinding. John had no idea where he was for two legs of the practice course but he still ground away on the...

The world is a poorer place without John "Rambo" Grant. We had a lot of fun together over 36 years in the service and out. He's my Most Unforgetable Chacter, best friend, favorite Marine and all around good guy despite his best efforts to hide all those facts.
My condolences to his family. I loved him too.
