John F. Gunther 83, of DeKalb passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 23, 1941, in DeKalb, IL and was the son of Fred and Alfhild (Wellander) Gunther.


John had a fulfilling life filled with family, work, and hobbies he loved. Graduating from DeKalb High School in 1959 marked the beginning of his journey, which included a long and dedicated career as a meat cutter that spanned nearly five decades. His marriage to Sandra B. Voris in 1962 at the First United Methodist Church of DeKalb highlights a significant personal milestone, suggesting a strong partnership.


John's interests in golfing, fishing, and sports, particularly his support for the Chicago Bears and the White Sox, indicate that he enjoyed both outdoor activities and the thrill of sports. Being described as a family man emphasizes the importance he placed on family connections, making cherished memories with his children and grandchildren.


 John's life story reflects a blend of hard work, love for family, and passion for leisure activities, showcasing a well-rounded individual who likely left a lasting impact on those around him.


Survivors include; wife Sandra of DeKalb, children; Kenneth (Robin) Gunther of Yorktown, VA and Nicole (Victor) Bledsoe of DeKalb. Grandchildren; Chloe Gunther and Connor Gunter both of Yorktown, VA and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by parents, son Jeffrey, sisters Shirley, Helen, and Patricia.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have many great memories of Uncle John growing up , he and Sandy were always so nice to me loved seeing them and Jeff, Kenny and Nicki , he was always smiling and had a great sense of humor, I loved seeing him at the store when we went shopping he always had smile and a pleasant word . I’m so glad he was surrounded by those who loved him at the end of the, my thoughts are with you all. Love to you all
