HABERERN

John Haberern , 83, of Palm Coast, FL passed away on March 2, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. John was the beloved husband of Jana for 37 years. He was the loving father of John Haberern, Jr. (Maureen), Bethann, Jill Melis (Elliot) and Andrew Haberern (Megan), the cherished Grandad of Alexandra, Christopher, Cooper, Griffin, Connor and Quinn and the dearest older brother of Paulette and Paul Stein. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gretha, and his brother Roger Haberern.

John was born in his family’s country hotel in North Coplay, PA. He graduated from Whitehall High School where he held the record for the 100 yard dash for over 20 years. He continued his education graduating cum laude from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA and then went on to serve in the Army National Guard. John began his professional career at Rodale Press in 1959 as a book editor. He retired 46 years later as a Sr. VP of the Rodale publishing company and President of the non-profit Rodale Institute. He passionately worked there as head of Research & Development for their 300 acre organic farm. John traveled the world helping to educate underdeveloped countries on how to farm organically as a viable economic option.

John was President of his local Optimist Club and the Lt. Governor of the regional District.  He served as President of numerous boards in the Lehigh Valley including the YMCA, Community Services for Children and the Hispanic American Organization.

In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to his grandchildren’s various sporting events and other activities. He also loved playing tennis and golf in his spare time.

A private family service was held in Palm Coast and there will be a celebration of life in PA this summer with a date and details to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Muhlenberg College, Rodale Institute or the charity of your choice. The family of John Haberen has entrusted arrangements with Clymer Funeral Home

Not sure what to say?

Jana, Chris and I are so sorry to hear of John's passing. He was without question the best boss I ever had--wise, kind, gentle in spirit, and always willing to listen. I will always remember him as a great mentor and loving father. Please know that you and Andrew are in our prayers. Hugs to you both.
