Not sure what to say?

Inarguably the finest gentleman I ever crossed courses with, and I have been to sea more than a few times. May he Rest in Peace knowing that he was my friend. Mike Quinn

John was a U of R Navy ROTC colleague, apartment mate in Rochester, fellow Naval Officer , and he took care of Janice and my son Michael in Naples. Janice is gone, but she and I will never forget his kindness.

Jack (a.k.a. John) was my roommate at "the house" - Theta Chi. He and I painted the Union Jack on the ceiling of our tiny little room. Interesting that a lawyer and a doctor would blossom from that little room. He used to say that Meliora meant "mediocre", but he knew what it really meant.

According to Wikipedia:
Meliora is a Latin adjective meaning "better". It is the neuter plural (nominative or accusative) form of the adjective "melior, -or, -us". It is the motto of the...

Terry, family, and friends,

Like us all, we were immensely saddened to hear of John’s passing. We’re happy to say we kept in reasonably regular contact over the years since the University of Rochester in the 70’s. His warmth, humor, generosity, graciousness, and intellect will never leave us. We combed through our photo albums for pictures of our own family’s visits to and from John – Jacksonville FL, Naples Italy, Rota Spain, Eatontown NJ, Virginia Beach VA, Monterey CA,...

I am sorry to read this in the Buffalo News online. Jack was with me from the kindergarten bus to graduation. I went to college in Buffalo and he was one of few classmates at a nearby university!

Although years and time separated us, he was a person who always remained in my heart and soul!

He had so many talents, and I got to see them develop in our years at school. He always had a great sense of humor and a great sense of responsibility to others in life. He was always...

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

To Jack's family, It was clear Jack was thrilled to be able to attend the RCS Class of 1969 reunion last August. In school, I remember him as a low key but active and caring classmate who contributed more than he knew to his peers.

Dear Terry,
I found out about your husband's death while back in Buffalo for another funeral but had to fly back west before the calling hours. I am so sorry - he was such a dear friend and lifelong partner for you and so important to your children and nieces and nephews. I only met him a couple of times at college events and when we were at the Fire Hall on Elmwood during that November storm. Peace to all of you, and may God's love shelter you in the days and months ahead.

Dear Hains family,
John (Jack) was one of the "guys" during our Ravena years. But I got to know him better when we both lived in Rochester. He was a stand-up guy and his passing leaves all of us with fond memories but a sadness for the unfinished story.
Peace to you,
Bob Hargis
