John E. Hanoian was born on August 2, 1931, the second child of Aznive and Peter Hanoian. John passed away on October 10, 2014. John was born in the warehouse of the old Hanoian's Market on Railroad and East Avenues in Fresno. He attended Calwa School and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He received his BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Fresno State, and went on to receive his Master's Degree from University of Southern California. In 1957, John married Loretta Jelladian, and they had two daughters, Anita and Lorie.
John had many passions in his life, aeronautic engineering being one of them. John worked for North American Aviation, which became Rockwell International, for 30 years. He retired from Rockwell, and then immediately was hired by Northrop Grumman, where he worked for the next 26 years. He loved his work, from the analysis, to making life long friendships with his co-workers. He took great pride in his work, and loved to tell stories about working on cool airplanes. John's most recent work was on the FA18 E&F model fighter, but he also contributed to the B1 bomber, the B2 Stealth bomber, the F117, and the Space Shuttles and Apollo moon rockets to name only a few.
John loved the arts, especially music. He enjoyed playing the violin, listening to classical music, attending operas, visiting art museums, and Armenian music and Armenian dancing. John enjoyed traveling, especially with his family, and became an experienced artist, working in oils.
John, we will miss your wisdom, work ethic, determination, and your gentle caring nature. But most of all, we will miss your jokes and sense of humor. May God hold you in His Grace. Until we meet again.
John is survived by his daughters, Anita Carrion and her husband Dan, and Lorie Hanoian; his brothers, Peter Hanoian III, Harvey Hanoian and his wife Nora; grandsons, Daniel and John Carrion; nieces Lenya Montoya and husband Tom, Ani Hanoian, Seta Hanoian, and Sossi Hanoian; three great nephews; many dear cousins; and close friends.

From the time I married my husband in 1945 to his death earlier this year Dorman talked about his early employment with the Hanoian Family. They were all happy memories. Our trips to the Hanoian store were always like family reunions for him. Dorman was 96 when he died so I marveled that the early days of working with the Hanioan's had made such an impact on his life. I send my condolences to the Hanioan family.

I enjoyed John's friendship as did many of my co-workers at Northrop. I also had lunch with him many times at local church picnics that we both visited. My father (Herbert) knew John, as they grew up in the same community in Fresno. John related that my grandmother (Florence) would shop at Hanoian's market while accompanied by her son's Herbert and Carl who would visit with him. I will remember John for his friendly and easy going nature. He also had a great sense of humor and positive attitude in life. I called and spoke to him a few days before his passing. I'm sure he was heavily medicated as he tried with difficulty to communicate over the phone. Once he recognized me, he jokingly said: "I'm in a bit of a predicament" as he knew he didn't have much longer to live. He made the world a better place and I will miss him.

John was our friend first, then a great mentor, and a colleague at work.
A truly sincere friend, a gifted mentor, and an immaculate colleague.
We all have been blessed by his life of 83 years in many ways.
And that blessing carries on as part of our lives.
