Not sure what to say?

For
the family of John Hanscom, my sympathies for his passing. I was a
student at Highland Park High School taking Government from Mr. Hanscom
in 1973 as a Senior.

I have many memories of his class and how enthusiastic he was in teaching his students. I remember his talking about the distance he traveled each day to teach us students at HP. What a great sacrifice in time. I also remember a green leprechaun that was sitting atop his podium each day. I believe the leprechaun...

To Mr. Hanscom's family, I am so sorry for your loss. I had Mr. Hanscom for Government, my senior year 1974. I was always so impressed by how much he appreciated his job, like it was a gift that he had been given, to have the chance to teach us and impart his knowledge.

I was sad to hear of Mr Hanscom's passing. I was in his European Studies class and have wonderful memories of his frequently coming to class in historical character. In the world of high school history, where so many teachers are coaches, first, and academic instructors, second, he was one of those rare teachers who instilled a love of the subject in his students. I think he had a major role in helping to develop my lifelong love of all things historical. Dory Johnson, HPHS 75.

While I didn't have the pleasure of having Mr Hanscom as a teacher, I always saw him around school where he took time to speak to all of us, not just his students. He left a lasting impression on many.

I hope I can be half as successful with my students as he was with his.

Please know we are thinking of all of you at this time.

Mr. Hanscom made HPHS a better place. He will truly live on in the lives of his students.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had Mr. Hanscom for European History, as well as Government, at HPHS during the 1977-78 school year. I LOVED his European History class, and to this day love learning more about it because of him. He was fun in the classroom and made the subject so interesting. What a terrific man! My sympathies to everyone in your family. May all your memories be happy ones.
