Not sure what to say?

Dr. Hansen was a great boss and my first research collaborator. Smart and to the point, not one to mince words but fair and honest. A prince of a fellow.
Dr. Judith Malmgren

I worked with John on the NMDP board for over 20 years. I was the Chief Financial Officer and always respected John's candor, integrity, during those early years of transplantation. I always felt I could pick up the phone at anytime and speak with him.

He was a very smart man.

John was a lovely man, a devoted husband and father, and an amazing physician. His dedication in the fight against cancer was epic. Love and light to Suzanne, Nicolas, and the rest of the family.

Even among the brilliant and accomplished physician-scientists at the Hutch, Dr. Hansen was outstanding as a role model. We fellows knew of his pioneering and sophisticated HLA work, and its importance for patients undergoing any kind of transplant, but only a lucky few of us got to work with him as a clinician. He was kind, gentlemanly and optimistic for patients; for fellows he was a wonderful teacher. He was good humored and pragmatic, showing us all how taking steps was so much more...

Sending heartfelt condolences to you Suzanne, Nicholas and the rest of the beloved family. May you all be warmly embraced with the Lord's blessings of comfort and peace. It was such a pleasure to be able to visit with you and John all those yrs when I cleaned your home.

He was one of my husband's doctors in 1994 when my husband was a patient at "the Hutch" for a transplant for his multiple myeloma. He was always so kind and upbeat. My husband loved it when he stopped to check in to see how he was doing. Thank you Dr. Hansen for all your care and interest. Sandy Brentlinger, Olympia, WA
