John Freeman Haviland

I met John in the mid 70s. As a young college boy I worked as a bellboy at the Heathman. From time to time I'd take him up to the mezzanine on the bell boys elevator. He always held a wall street journal and had a nice smile. He always looked me in the eyes with his bushy eye brows. I'll never forget him asking me once "do you think the dow will ever reach 1000?". That one question caused me to look at economics and change my major in college. In the end I stayed in Hospitality and look back...

I have a lot of fond memories of John and will never forget him. He was an important mentor in my life and I owe a lot of my successes to him.
