Not sure what to say?

John H. Hayes, my teacher, Doktor Vater, and lifelong friend and sage. A great man, role model as a teacher and scholar, and friend. He is sorely missed, but his time had come, and those of us who depended on him remember sweetly his time here for us.

He was one of the best human beings I knew.

'Till we meet again.....
R.Clinton Pittman,M.D.,J.D.,M.Div.

John was my teacher and Doktor Vater at Emory. He sponsored me for the Goettingen exchange program in Germany, where I went for two years and stood my doctoral exams in Near Eastern Studies. He got me on the road to writing and publishing, and I had published both articles and short notes, a couple in Vetus Testamentum, the most esteemed journal in the discipline, before I graduated. Because of his tutelage, my dissertation became a major monograph, published by the University of Sheffield,...

John was my second cousin, but we didn't really know each other. I met him years ago at a family reunion shortly after his mother (Aunt Mattie) passed away, and while Francis (his sister) was still alive. I read his book "If You Don't Like the Possum..." and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It made me feel like I knew him a little better. My deepest sympathies to the loved ones left behind.

Dr. Hayes, was an excellent teacher and a fine Christian man. I still quote him in sermons and Bible lessons. The thing I remember most was his friendship and him telling me that I would have to accept the fact that I too was a theologian. Praise God for those for those He sends into our lives. God bless; Kenny Baskins
