John Alton Hayes Sr.

John Alton Hayes Sr., 72, of Fairmont passed away peacefully at UHC on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. He has met his Lord and is walking on the streets of Glory. He was born on March 29, 1945, a son of the late Chester Hayes Sr. and Opal (Ott) Hayes. Before his retirement, John painted houses and was a handy man around Fairmont for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and visiting with family. He attended Everson Baptist Church since the 1980's, and was always willing to help those in need. He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Sharp) Hayes. He is also survived by his daughter Crystal Crider and her husband Johnnie of Moorefield, WV, and his sons John Hayes Jr. of Elkins, WV, and Jeremy Hayes and his wife Jessica of Moorefield, WV, six grandchildren: Nicole, Erica, and Selena Fullen, and Ethan, Skylar, and Cheyanne Hayes, as well as two great-grandchildren: Alexander and Madilynn. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers: Sonny, Ron, Don, and Greg Hayes. Friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Friday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 4, 2017, with Pastor Robert Tennant officiating.
