JOHN J. "JACK" HEIDBRINK

I met Jack during freshman football practice at New Trier High School. We became good friends in high school and through college. There is no doubt that pound for pound, Jack was the toughest player on the field. Jack was a great person and will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace.

Mr. Heidbrink was my high school history teacher and brought academic excellence, discipline and scholarship to what could often be dry material. He charged us with tuning into world events by watching, reading and then summarizing news every morning. For me this sparked a lifelong habit and interest in civics and world events. He made a difference and I am grateful to have had him as one of my outstanding teachers. RIP.

Mr. Heidbrink was my 9th grade World History teacher and he is the one who taught me how to write a research paper. I remember carrying around my stack of notecards about Queen Elizabeth I. RIP to an excellent teacher.

Jack was a football coach at LHS in the 70s, a good honest educator that took interest in his students. I took his history class about China in 74. He also had a side gig as a real estate agent and sold us our first home in Billerica. A class guy all around!

He was our LHS assistant football coach in the early 70's and a great guy. My condolences to his family.

Jack was a true gentleman. It was both an honor and a pleasure to be his colleague.

I was a student in the LABBB program and was a "classroom neighbor" to Mr. Heidbrink for 2 years. I decided to take Wold History 101 with him. He was such an interesting teacher and had so much to offer. He was also very kind. He even let me take a picture which I have to this day.

During the late 60s and early 70s I had the privilege of working with Jack out of D House at Lexington High School and to get to know him. As history teachers in the Lexington High School Social Studies Department Jack and I worked on certain instructional units together. We both valued primary sources and joined in presenting contemporary, `1930/40, news footage. Jack dubbed us "The Warner Brothers of LHS."
