Not sure what to say?

An unlikely friendship formed between a respected surgeon and a nerdy engineer. Jack and I were neighbors on Page St, went to the same church, and valued our families. Beyond that, we both loved trains. We enjoyed watching them, riding on them, and building models. This shared interest led to a strong, lasting friendship. Together with other experts, we built a model railroad above Jack's 3-stall garage. We regularly operated the trains with fellow enthusiasts, known as the "train weenies."...

I am sorry and sad to read of the passing of Jack. We were classmates in medical school, often studying together before exams and both were in orthopedic residency at the University. We loss contact with each other when I moved to Geneva, NY where I practiced orthopedic surgery until 2014. Now enjoying retirement in Jupiter Florida. Olaf U. Lieberg, MD

In fond memory of Dr. Henke, a truly amazing orthopedic surgeon who left a lasting mark. I still remember my first days as a 23-year-old operating room nurse at St Joe´s back in 1989. Working alongside Dr. Henke and the OR Team filled me with pride, knowing we were part of the incredible care he gave to his patients. His skill in the operating room was awesome, but it was his kindness and genuine spirit that really stood out. Dr. Henke set a high standard that I still hold in my mind when I...

I worked with Dr. Henke years ago in his orthopedic office at Saint Joe's. He once told me his favorite book was 'Where The Red Fern Grows'" and I am forever grateful despite the fact that it made me cry like a baby. Ehen I told him that, he replied, "you and me both" and I felt vindicated!

Jack & Donna were my clients for many years. They were the nicest people. I always look at the house on Wagner Road when I pass by and remember them. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I worked at St Joes. My department worked closely with the Orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Henke was always friendly, courteous, communicative. He had a smile for everyone. When my mom needed hip and knee replacements, I took her to Dr. Henke because of his skill and compassion. Reading his obituary increases my appreciation and awe for the life he led and how many lives are better for his existence. To his loved ones, I am sorry for your loss.

Doug, Ryan and families. So very sorry to hear of your dad´s passing. He was such a kind, sweet and loving man. What a great legacy he has left. Although it has been many years since we left Ann Arbor, we have such wonderful memories of celebrations, holidays, vacations and popcorn, cheese and apples Sunday nights. You were blessed with wonderful parents. It was a privilege to know and love them. Again, our sympathy to a life well lived. Jack and Barb Ballema

Thanks to your Dad I can walk. At age 5 he performed a heal cord extension of my right leg due to prematurity. Now 45 years later I still think about him. He was kind, sincere, loving and had one of the best smiles I´ve ever seen. He made me feel safe and secure during what seemed to be one of the scariest times in my young life. I´m forever grateful for his care and wisdom. My deepest condolences. Melissa
