John was a great man, kind and compassionate. I met John years ago at a pivotal time in both of our lives and he made a lifelong impression on me.

We were priests together and very good friends when I was in the Western Michigan diocese. As both scholars and Yale graduates, and Anglo-Catholics, (John Hills had graduated from Nashotah), we had a lot in common. I shall remember him at the altar this Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday when I preside at St Margaret's, Palm Desert, California.
