Hawthorne Funeral Home - Mount Vernon Obituary

John, age 83, passed away peacefully at home after a short battle with metastatic prostate cancer, his wife and daughters by his side.  He was born on July 23, 1937 to Maurice and Geneice Hoag in Lincoln Nebraska.

As a young boy, John moved with his parents from Lincoln, Nebraska to Burien, Washington.  He grew up in Burien with his parents, sisters Jeanette, Marilyn and June and brother Mike.  He met his wife Sharon in high school where they became sweethearts.  They married on August 10, 1955 and had two daughters.

John’s family always came first.  His wife Sharon, his daughters and grand children were his top priority.  John worked for Boeing for 37 years as an industrial engineer.  He retired in 1995 at the age of 57.  He and Sharon enjoyed retirement by traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Sharon of 65 years, daughter Carrie and son-in-law Dale Malmberg, daughter Regina and son-in-law Ray McManus, grandchildren Alex, Anthony, Nicholas, Sarah and Zachary, and great grandchildren, Jackson and Remington.  He is also survived by his sisters, brother and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Geneice, and granddaughter Kristin.

John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be deeply missed.

A special thank-you to our exceptional caregivers and hospice staff on this journey.

Donations can be made in John’s name to Hospice of the Northwest or American Cancer Society.

A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
