Dear Peter & Family, Just heard of your Dad's passing today. We are so very sorry for your loss.

I knew John's uncle, Harry Davenport, from the McCarthy campaign. (Eugene, not Joseph.) I met John when he spoke about his book -- Harry, Tom, and Father Rice ... -- at a bookstore in 2005. We had a grand time comparing reminiscences. He was a gracious man and I am sorry to learn of his passing. I hope to attend the memorial service.

Joanne, you may not remember me but I was one of the Newsdesk Clerks in the early 2000's. I am so sorry for your loss. The few times I met John he was very kind. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult time.
