Not sure what to say?

Dear Toni,
Just read Bill's obituary and am sorry for your loss. I am Lois' daughter, Darylle and I remember the summer I stayed with you for a week and you took me to the summer theatre. And I was there at your wedding to Bill.

My deepest condolences upon the loss of Mr. Holl. One of the highlights of my musical life was the 2 times the Holls and Olivers got together over at 1125 to play clarinet quartets in '67 and '68. As I recall (from memory) Mr. Holl was born in 1895, my father in 1915, "Billy" (what my father and grandfolks called him) in 1928 and me, in 1949. After both my father and mother passed on, Mr. Holl still honored me with a visit on some of his trips back to his hometown. He was a remarkable &...

To Antoinette and the family of Bill Holl
Please accept our belated condolences for the passing of our friend Bill. Bill was a wonderful person who had a lasting impact on Penn State’s Department of Aerospace Engineering. Just as he was winding down an illustrious career as an educator and an underwater fluid dynamicist, the Aerospace Department was poised for major growth. Bill stepped up to administer the program and additionally provide me with valuable advice as I was just...

Dr. Holl was my MS thesis advisor in 63/64. His imposing presence at that time was coupled with a caring professionalism. His early mentoring was fundamental to many of the successes in my career. We worked and laughed together for many years at ARL, and I will miss him forever.

Bill was always a delightful presence at the Chamber Music Conference at Bennington. I remember being very impressed by his tale of going back for his music degree at age 60-plus. My sincere sympathy to his family.

Antoinette and the Holl family, I am sorry for your loss. Bill was a wonderful man and musician who influenced many people. I am grateful of the time I spent playing beside Bill in Wind Ensemble and taking the opportunity to play duets with him. It was always fun to be challenged by Bill and to hear his stories about music and about life. Thank you Bill for sharing the gift of music with me. You have been and will always be an inspiration to me. You will be missed.

I was one of Dr. Holl's many undergrad students. I never got to know the funny side of him as I was always struggling to keep up with the homework he assigned. But, I do have this funny memory. The first day my classmates and I met him, he came into the classroom and printed his initials and last name on the board - W.J.Holl. But when he printed his name, he used circles for periods behind his initials, so to us it looked like his name was WoJo Holl. For the next two years, our class...

It was an extreme honor and privilege to work with Dr. Holl in Aerospace Engineering. He put 100+% of himself into the Director of Graduate Studies (or as he aptly named it "DOGS") position. Dr. Holl made such a a lasting impression on many faculty, students, and staff. He was tremendous professor, administrator, musician, student, and most of all friend. His love of his family was very evident. He also loved acronyms and his infamous signature line was "Dr. J. William Holl f.l.a.a. fem"...
