My favorite professor, teacher & mentor. I have used so much of his advice throughout my life and I pass it along often. I still wish I took his advice to go to grad school. I will always be a member of his fan club. I also remember how proud he was of his daughter. I feel lucky to have known him.

John Holland changed my life. If a person were to fantasize about the ideal art school mentor, it wouldn't come close to what he brought to the experience of finding one's voice in a creative environment and all that entails. He was benevolent, fatherly, wildly intelligent, and absolutely supportive of a young artist's vision. He was a walking surprise, a genius dressed against type. John was a mentor who influenced my ideas of what art could be. He broadened the scope of so many developing artists. John´s titanic talent and spirit will carry on in all SIM alumni hearts.

Oh my. My favorite professor, teacher & mentor. No one quite like him on Earth. He was such an inspiration for me, and has and will always be cherished. As an instructor, he taught so much so well, and was truly formative in my development as an artist. My deepest heartfelt condolence's to his family.
