Funeral service for John Edward Hopper, age 54, of Decatur will be Thursday, December 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Gentry and Rev. Howard Martin officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Hopper died Sunday, December 14, 2014, in Lee County. He was born August 4, 1960, in Decatur to Robert L. Hopper and Mary Jane McAbee Hopper. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by one son, John Andrew Hopper of Decatur; one daughter, Whitney Thompson (Mark) of Decatur; mother, Mary Jane Hopper of Decatur; two brothers, Donnie Hopper and Wayne Hopper, both of Decatur; one sister, Mary Ann Elmore of Shreveport, LA.; one grandson, Keelan Thompson; and numerous nephews and nieces who will always love their Uncle Johnny.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Barry Dickerson, Keith Allison, Rick Robinson, Richard Long, Franklin Prince, Kevin Clark and Danny Goodner. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Kilgore and Brent Johnson.

You will be truely missed John. You were always there for all of us in your own special way, you made the bad days good and could always make everyone smile.

John Hopper u will be surely missed. You were my go to guy. But I know you will be watching over your co-workers. Thanks for all the memories and 12 years I have quite a few

May God bless the family during this time of sorrow. I work at Sonoco Reels and whenever I would run into John at the plant he always spoke to me and had a smile on his face and a friendly personality.

Whitney, this breaks my heart for you. I cannot imagine how you feel right now. I'll be keeping you in my prayers and if I can do anything please let me know.
