Chadwick Funeral and Cremation Service, LLC - New London Obituary

John A. Skow, “Jack” died Sunday, Oct. 17, surrounded by his family, at his home in New London, NH. Jack was born March 12, 1932 in South Bend, Ind., to John D. and Lucile Skow. He was 89 years old.

Jack grew up in Toledo, Ohio and attended Oberlin College, earning an English degree before heading east to work as a reporter for the Providence Journal and then the Boston Herald, eventually landing at TIME magazine, where he met his wife, Olga. Together they moved to New England, settling in New London in the mid-sixties to raise a family.

Jack continued to work as a writer/reporter. He climbed, trekked, and skied all over the world, writing stories about his travels for The Saturday Evening Post, Skiing, TIME, Outside and Backpacker.

His family and friends appreciated his stories and enjoyed evenings of conversation in front of the woodstove, fueled by cords of firewood he cut and split. In later summers he often glazed diamond-paned windows on the porch of the family summer home.

Jack leaves behind his wife, Olga, children, Katherine, Alexander, and Elizabeth, brother, James Skow, as well as three grandchildren, and many other family members.

Not sure what to say?

We met Olga and Jack when Olga was a Peace Corps volunteer in Mozambique. We visited them 3 time in New London .Then lost touch when we moved back to South Africa

Sorry for your loss, I remember Olga when she did some work for the mental health center in Concord. I think I met one of your daughters when she was at a Subaru dealership in Oakland.

We are so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. Sending condolences to the family.
