Heartbreaking. John was among the topmost exceptionally wonderful humans I have ever known, in terms of both character and intelligence. He was consistently kind, caring, compassionate, benevolent, tactful/diplomatic, profound, fascinating, brilliant, soigné, modest, and a raft of other excellent traits.
