Not sure what to say?

I remember the Cum Laude Society induction at V.E.S., when we spoke. An absolutely robust, vibrant man... A man for all seasons. I think of that "standing joke"... "All rise!". My mother, soon to be 88 years old, served on one of Judge Johnston's juries, and still speaks admiringly of him. Last time I saw him was at Dudley's. This man loved his profession, and is truly a judicial legend. May his successor, Presiding Judge John T. Cook, continue in the finest judicial traditions, as I...

To the family of Judge Johnston, my sincerest sympathies and prayers for comfort at the loss of this wonderful person. I had the privilege of his presence on a few occasions - one being at his place of business and the other at my place of business. What a great blessing it was to have known him and I will never forget how he touched my life.

Sam, was a family friend from birth. His mother and my mother were dear friends and became like family. Our mothers being educators had such a bond with one another. My mother, sister, and I attended Sam and Liz´s wedding. The wedding and trip to Virginia were a once in a lifetime experience for us. Sam was always one of my mother´s favorites and she was not shy in sharing that with others. Through the years my family would always look forward to our annual Christmas card from Sam and Liz....

I remember Sam from law school at UVA. My memories are of a really nice person, congenial and a fun guy. I lost my wife three years ago, so I know what your family is going through. I´m sure your memories will be pleasant once the pain begins to ebb, although it never really goes away. My best to the whole family. Boyd Hixson

Thinking of you. What a special, one of a kind person! May your memories bring you comfort.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I am a big fan of Judge Johnston, I've been in front of him a few times, always on the good side, and he never ruled against me! I use to be the manager of TCBY ice cream and yogurt store, and he always came in for his favorites, also at Country Kitchen, I had the pleasure of having a few great conversations with him and he was a very good listener! He will be very missed and I will always have great thoughts and a smile when I think of him!

What an amazing man. So sorry for your loss. Praying for the family. Carol Godwin

I am a court reporter and had the privilege of working with Judge Johnston when he was on the bench in Campbell County Circuit Court. I always enjoyed his sense of humor, his ostrich meatballs and the stories he shared. My sympathies go out to the family. He will be truly missed! And, yes, Judge, you are speaking as fast as you ever did!!

I´m so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers of comfort for the family.
