Not sure what to say?

Eight years have passed since we lost John and now Chuck is gone too. He's in two of the Wind River photos with John. Life will never be the same. I like to think of John still up in his beloved "East Fork" and Chuck in the High Sierra.

John was a very special colleague of mine in the art department at Rye Country Day School. I was saddened to hear of Johns passing recently from a young graduate of Dartmouth College who knew him from climbing. I still remember Johns special insights about art and life. His memory lives on in the special affect he had on so many. May he Rest In Peace.

I am so saddened to hear about John's passing. He was such a kind and
deeply spiritual man who opened my inner eyes to realms that I had not previously considered. Our last meeting was an uplifting joy as always and I will miss him.

John and I rowed Dartmouth lightweight crew together and shared a house in Hanover senior year. A quiet and thoughtful man, he was absolutely dedicated to making the boat go fast. I had always wanted to reconnect at a reunion but that opportunity is lost. I will settle for reading these stories of his life and and love of climbing.

Thank you John for all you did.

Who was this white haired, marvelously enthusiastic, positive, kind, fit, climber-artist-philosopher-naturalist? His intellectual curiosity and his physical vitality were infectious John invariably brightened my mood whenever I was around him. He was so open to new experiences, so generous, and so unpretentious. With equal enthusiasm John would discourse about the...

Like many many many before me, I learned how to climb from John. Or more precisely, how to find the inner child within me. He had it in him, and was deeply convinced that we all can do it. This was in 2003, when I had just gotten tenure at Dartmouth and needed to do something ... very different. John became a very inspiring person in my life. I kept climbing, with fear but with great curiosity. I would watch him make his way as lightly as ever up and across the rock, barely touching it. For...
