John “Chuck” Kangas, 91, formerly of New Ipswich and Rindge, died Friday April 30, 2004 at Greenbriar Terrace in Nashua, NH after a period of failing health.

Mr. Kangas was born on April 8, 1913 in Larpua, Finland, son of the late John and Susan (Kero) Kangas. He was a 1933 graduate of Appleton Academy in New Ipswich. He had been an employee of D.D. Bean & Sons in Jaffrey.

Mr. Kangas had served with the Sea Bees during World War II and was a member of the John Humiston Post #11 American Legion in Jaffrey and the Jaffrey VFW Memorial Post #5613.

Mr. Kangas enjoyed motorcycling and gardening. He had belonged to the New Ipswich Seniors and sang in the Monadnock Choir for many years. He was also a member of Saima Park in Fitchburg, MA.

Mr. Kangas was pre-deceased by his first wife Anne (Holmes) Kangas in 1976. He was also pre-deceased by his sister Miriam and his brothers Ralph, Toivo, Harvey, and Leonard Kangas.

He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Effie (Salo) Kangas of Nashua, his son Leonard Kangas of Englewood FL, his granddaughter Anne Barter and his great-granddaughter Sarah Barter, both of Portland, ME, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends and Family are invited to a calling hour on Tuesday Morning, May 4, 2004, from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202) Jaffrey.

A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel at the funeral home. Rev. William Beardslee, Pastor of the United Church of Jaffrey will officiate. Burial will follow in Conant Cemetery, Jaffrey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Kangas’ name to the Jaffrey-Rindge VFW Memorial Ambulance, Post Office Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452-0107.
