Read MoreIt was an honor to know John and the entire Kersey family. Having lived next door to his sister, Margaret, for many years, they were strong in their Christian beliefs and every day practices.
He had been in my thoughts in recent weeks and, not knowing of his illness, had hoped to visit him in 2017.
He is resting in peace and those who knew him will miss a fine man.

I have very fond childhood memories of Mr. Kersey and and wife during the 1950's and 1960's when they and their daughters were living in the Wythe section of Hampton. I remember him as a dedicated Christian gentleman. He had a quick wit, yet could be very serious at times.
