Not sure what to say?

Karen,
I was sorry to read about your uncle. I remember times when we would visit his KFC restaurant for chicken. It was nice you could be with him in his last moments.

Big John was that one person I have felt honored to know. my sympathy to Joe and the Big John gang. Thanks for the memories Big John!!!

I worked for Big John at his 1st Steak and Onion on N. Dort, after the KFC had burned down. I spent 10th through 12 grade working for him, and I've spend all these years working with the same zest to satisfy my employer. He was a great guy to have worked for and to have known for a short time in my early years. John Hartley, NC

I asked Johnny for a job at the age of 10 and he gave it to me. I would fill salt and pepper shakers, sweep floors and take out trash on the weekends. When I was 13 I worked after school at Big John's #1 and then KFC on Dort HWY in high school. Johnny gave me a job during the summer in college when he had a full crew but knew I needed the money. He also gave me a work ethic that has follwed me through out my life. I'll never Johnny for giving me an opportunity to learn, work and enjoy life,...

Dear Joe, i am so sorry for your loss. we all loved him dearly. he always spoke highly of you and i could tell he was proud to have you as a brother. he was always there for me as a father. i will truthfully miss his wisdom and smile. he loved Helen(mom) so much. i am sure they are together now. i could feel your pain in your eyes, i feel it too.you are in my prayer's.

My Friend John, He hehped those in need, supported the arts, loved music and
dance but most of all he loved people.
We would see Him every where there was a gathering. He will be greatly missed.

I had the wonderful opportunity last year to talk with John about the restaurant business in Flint during the 60's when I began working for The Flint Journal. This great guy was the inspiration and provided backing for so many of the local restaurant owners. Many got their start in the business under John's direction. He will be missed by many.

-E. McGraw, Flint

What a great man. One of the most sincere, giving and caring persons I have met in my lifetime. This man will be missed. He was a treasure to our community.

I worked for John at his KofC franchise on Dort in the early 70's. He was a friend of my dad, Gus, which probably got me the job. Then I moved over to Big John's when he first opened it. Life took me in a different direction but I always enjoyed seeing him at the Hungarian Festivals held at Blessed Sacrament. John was a generous, kind man. Now heaven has one more angel, along with Helen and my dad, to look after us all.
