KOVACS, John S. - Of Flint, age 79, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Joseph Hurlburt officiating. Per his wishes cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association. Visitation 10AM Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home. A Military service will be held under the auspices of the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard. John was born in Flint, Michigan on March 17, 1927 in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Elek and Julia (Podpora) Kovacs. He served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was employed with General Motors parts and service and retired from the Pontiac plant. John loved cooking, playing cards and watching T.V. Surviving are step-children, Patricia Payne of Montrose, Art Cook of Durand, George Cook of Flint, Margarite Mellow of Flint, Randy and wife Susan Cook of IN, Theresa Murphy of Mt. Morris, Debbie and Patrick Wittbrodt of Grand Blanc, Michele and husband George Miller of FL; many step-grandchildren, Patrick, Sarah, Bethany, Kelly, Michele, Matthew and Georgie; brothers and sisters, Alvira Vechell of Davison, Joseph (Ann) Kovacs of Burton, Dolly (Pete) Swerdan of Flint Township, Emil (Emalene) Kovacs of Linden; many nieces and nephews; very special friend, Eve Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dora in 1984, son John Jr., brothers, Elek Kovacs, Gabriel Kovacs, Frank Kovacs, sisters, Julia Kubik, Mary Beaudoin and Helen Kovacs.
