Not sure what to say?

Dear Mary Anne

I had been out of touch with John from 1946 until the our October reunion at Lancaster. basically because I kept going westward Ann Arbor, Chicago where I met my dear Mary Catherine and where Patty our lawyer-teacher was born, then on to Denver where I obtained a PhD in Microbiology and our Stuart, Anna, John, and Molly were born; then to Pittsburgh in 1964, where I have been virtually an independent inventor involved with blood collection and separation for laboratory...

Mary Anne, Over the past several days I have spent much time reflecting on my memories of the captain. There are so many great ones over the years that include fishing, boating and pheasant hunting, but the memory that rises above the rest is the man that he was. He was a liflelong teacher of love and kindness through his actions. As his nephew I was able to see a bond between he and my dad that was like no other. Witnessing that bond showed me not only what it meant to be a good brother,...

Don and Family,
My prayers are with all of you at this time. Cherish the memories for it is those memories that keep John alive in your heart. John is now on the next great adventure. He is "First Mate" to the greatest "Captain" there is. He is setting the course for reunions years from now. Calm winds are ahead and smooth seas await. My thought and prayers are with you.

I am saddened by the loss of my brother Captain (John) He has a wonderfull family and many friends. We were very close. My children
will always remember the wonderfull
times with him and Mary Anne. We played tennis, boated together, fished, and many other things. Once in awhile we got into trouble with the "First Mate". More important was the love he brought into our
families. He will always be in our memories.
Love you Captain
Your Brother

Barb and I appreciate the thoughts and prayers of friends and family. The "Captin" truly was a kind and gentle man who touched all that he met with his warmth. He will be missed.

Dear Mary Anne
I am saddened to hear that I have lost my good friend John. What a great man and a good person he was. He lived life to the fullest and he is to be admired. He showed me life on the Chesapeake and so loved to be on the sea. His skills as a captain were never in doubt even when I looked under the control panel of the Exstacy and saw so many loose wires with no obvious purpose. His sense of humor on the sea or the tennis court was always evident. I will miss him but I will...

The loss of someone so close is difficult to bear. We share your grief. We can only reflect on the wonderfull fishing trips and Gut games at the club.

Paulette and I extend our sincere condolences at the loss of John....He was a very special person and will be missed by all. While we are both unable to attend the viewing and funeral, we wanted you and your family to know our grief at the loss of such a kind person. We will always remember him fondly.

Sincerely,
Russ & Paulette Matthews
