Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth Obituary

John “Jack” L. Kubica

Frankenmuth, MI

Formerly of Suttons Bay, MI

Passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at his home, surrounded by family; age 70 years.  Jack was born on December 23, 1945, in Chicago, IL to the late Ivan and Evelyn (Lamm) Kubica.  He was previously married to Mary Schulz. They honeymooned in Leland, and in 1989, they built their dream home in Suttons Bay. Mary predeceased him in 1993. Jack later married Becky (Gochenour) DeShone in 2004, lived in Frankenmuth, and because of their love of the area, later purchased a retirement home in Suttons Bay.

Jack served in the U.S. Navy and was employed by 3M, Standard T Chemical in Chicago, and Century Specialties in Traverse City, B &P Processing in Saginaw, and later retired from Williams Scotsman in 2014. He enjoyed sunrises and sunsets, photography, fishing, boating, and remodeling his home to build a better life for himself and his children, refinishing furniture, camping and the great outdoors.

Surviving besides his wife, Becky, is a son, Eric Kubica of Crown Point, IN, a daughter, Jenni (David) Kittell of Millington, MI, a stepdaughter, Heather DeShone of Houston, TX, and grandsons: Thomas, Elijah, Isaiah, Malachi, and Josiah Kittell.

A private family memorial will take place at a time to be announced later.  According to Jack’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Leelanau Conservancy at leelanauconservancy.org or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice Compassus for their wonderful support. Arrangements entrusted to Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth.
