John Kuipers age 98, a resident of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord Wednesday, April 13, 2011. He was born Sept. 15, 1912 in Delthuizen, Groningen, The Netherlands to John and Geertje Kuipers. He married Grace Veldman on June 29, 1943 in Harkstede, The Netherlands.

He and his family immigrated to the U.S.A. arriving May 31, 1958, settling in Mount Vernon. He was a dairy farmer on the Beaver Marsh Rd for many years. He also played the organ and harmonica. He was a member of the 1st Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include his three sons, John (Mary) of Mount Vernon, Henry (Sharon) of Burlington and Gerrit (Trudy) of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Mike Kuipers, Rick Kuipers, Patty Helaas, Kristi Hilsinger, Darin Kuipers, Garritt Kuipers, Wendy Heino, Michele Feddema, John Kuipers and Sarah Kuipers and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Grace and his granddaughter Kimberly.

Viewing will be Monday, April 18 from 10am until 5pm. Graveside services are Tuesday, April 19 at 11 am at Hawthorne Memorial Park. Memorial Services will be at the 1st Christian Reformed Church at 1 pm.

Memorial maybe made to Mount Vernon Christian School.

Dank U, Oom Jan, for the wonderful memories of letting us climb with you to the "tree house" in the church to play the organ in Kantens, Grogingen. I was maybe 5 or 6 and, 60+ years later, I can still remember how amazed I was by the beautiful music you played. May you play forever in God's Great House.
