Not sure what to say?

Mr. Lackey was my fifth grade teacher at James Lane Allen. I looked up to him as a role model and always thought about him from time to time as I grew older; he taught me so much and was a big influence on me. I remember his ambition and dedication to his job.... he truly loved his students. I wish I reached out to him to let him know how much I still appreciate all he did for me. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

I want to share this little memory of him: One night,...

In reading the other messages, I got a big smile remembering the chapel where Mr. Lackey played "Johnnie B Goode" - how cool is that to see your 6th grade teacher rock out on the guitar? That was one of many fond memories I have from Mr. Lackey's 6th grade - he was kind, fair, even keeled and made school fun. What a combination-truly made a gifted teacher. My thoughts and prayers are will the entire Lackey family.

Mr. Lackey was my 6th grade teacher in the early'70s and basketball coach in high school. As mentioned in many of the comments, he was a kind man. Especially in light of the behavior I exhibited in high school. The characteristic that stands out the most to me is his ability to lead by example. This is what stuck with me the most. Plus his awesome guitar riffs. Rest in peace and condolences to the family.

In 1988, I arrived at Sayre School as a new teacher, and John immediately welcomed me to the Middle School. He was a kind and inclusive man who had the best for children at the heart of every decision he made. My thoughts are with you and your family, John.

It was my privilege to work with John at Sayre School. He was a dedicated administrator, an enthusiastic and well-loved teacher, a good friend and a fine man. I will never forget his performance at a school assembly, playing his guitar and singing "Money for Nothing." He rocked the gym! My condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. lackey tried his best to teach me guitar at Sayre, to no avail. My deepest sympathy to the family, he will be missed.

I best remember Mr. Lackey for the chess matches in 6th grade at Sayre. We had a great year improving our skills. Prayers to the Lackey family.

John was a steady hand for the novice teacher I was during my short stint at Sayre from 1983-1985. I still have fond memories of our chess matches.

My deepest sympathy to the Lackey family. John's kindness, intellect, passion for teaching and sense of fun touched many lives. Rest in peace, John.
