John (Jack) Laffey, 90, of Rockville, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22 with his family by his side. He was the husband of Livia (Limarzi) Laffey for the past 48 years, loving father of Cathy Fitzpatrick and her husband Sean of Derwood MD, and Bill Laffey and his wife Lisa of Germantown MD, and beloved "Papa" to his five grandchildren, Brian and Lily Fitzpatrick, and Nicholas, Zachary and Mackenzie Laffey. He is also survived by a sister, Bernadette Laffey of Scranton PA, and several nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in Scranton PA, graduated from Penn State University in 1958, and has lived in the Washington DC area since 1964. He worked at the Library of Congress from 1971 until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement, he volunteered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a tour guide, Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda MD, Meals on Wheels, and the Rockville Senior Center performing at local nursing homes. He loved to travel, had a life-long love of music and singing, and was a loyal Washington Nationals fan. Visitation will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 4101 Norbeck Road, Rockville MD 20853 on Wednesday September 27, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM. Interment will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or St. Patrick's School in Rockville MD.

Not sure what to say?

I'm assuming this is the same Jack Laffey who taught us a lot of great songs on the school bus from Scranton on the way to classes at Keystone Jr. College (now Keystone College). I have a very fond remembrance of Jack, and while glad he had a long life, I'm saddened by news of his passing.

I will always remember the great sense of humor and upbeat attitude that Jack had. I always looked forward to seeing him at the Kennedy Center.

Jack will be missed terribly by all who knew him. Now he can sing with a choir of angels.

Fathers and husbands hold a very special place in our lives. Their influence continues long after they leave us but the pain of their departure is unique to who the are as a person.
We will miss him too.

We send our sympathy for your loss and we wish peace.
