Not sure what to say?

My sons picked up an old book titled, "....and a Few Marines", written over 100 years ago, and it's inscribed Lt. John F Lanahan, USMCR, 22 April 1944". My son was 10 at the time. Ironically, he and his brother have joined the Marines... one is in boot camp now in Parris Island. Mr. Lanahan sounds like he was quite the hero. You were fortunate and blessed if you knew him.

I first met John Lanahan when I worked as his Executive Assistant when he was Chairman of the JTA. He was always such an honest and sincere person in every respect of his life. I admired him greatly as a boss, but most especially as a dear friend. I had the priviledge of planning his retirement party when he retired from the JTA, and was also honored to present to him a special commendation from the board members. Mr. Lanahan was truly a giant in my eyes, and I will never forget him and the...

John Lanahan was a giant to me. I stood in awe of his sense of fairness and his straight forward manner. I worked with him in city government for years. He was honest and direct. I liked him and liked working with him. My prayers are with his family. I will always remember sitting in Duke Ziebert's in Washington on a Chamber...

I was very sorry to learn of your Dad's death. Without a doubt he was a great man, father and friend to many. Through our friendship,I had the honor of knowing him for many years and the opportunity to work for him when he was President of the City Council. He will be truly missed. My Dad just passed away on February 5, 2004 and I certainly can relate to you sadness. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your families.

Dear Colleen, Johnny, Jim, Moby and Kevin, Somehow, in the scheme of things, we all seem like one big family. To me, your dad seems like my father's big brother (even though Daddy was 2 yrs. older). Uncle Johnny is truly an inspiration and a man whose priorities were all in the right place. Heaven awaits with joyful enthusiasm! Love and prayers at this sorrowful time, Claire Naughton Howard
