John was my professor and became a mentor and friend to a single mom by helping me financially as well. He offered me a job cleaning his home to help me make ends meet while I was going to school. He even allowed me to bring my children with me at times. I graduated with a 4.0 grade point, one of only two to do so in my 1999 class. I went on to get my BA at university of the pacific. I feel that he was one of the reasons that I was able to succeed and excel. I have never forgotten his...

My fondest memories of John are when he would tell stories to his beginning piano students and later for our final he grabbed his trombone and played along with "When The Saints Go Marching In". John is a very special soul that I am going to miss seeing everyday. A few of his students might understand this quote, "JACK!!!!!!! COME BACK!!!!!! JACK!!!!!!!" John, thank you for everything you have done for us students and CRC. Hawk Pride!!!!!

John was a neighbor and classmate, and one of the few i remember. He livened everything up. So sorry to hear of his premature passing. May God comfort his friends and family.

I went to John's Memorial Service and was sad to hear of his passing. He was an awesome music teacher and had a great sense of humor. There isn't another piano teacher in the community colleges as good as John. John is with God now.

I was a student of Mr. Landes from CRC. He was such an awesome teacher. He had a way of teaching that made comprehending easier and fun! I was planning on taking his piano class again and bringing my daughter along. Unfortunately, she never got the opportunity to meet him and learn from him. I feel so blessed to have had that honor. He was the BEST!!! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be missed. God bless you and keep you in his most tender loving care.

My sisters and I had the good fortune of attending Winston Churchill Middle School when Mr. Landes taught band there. His love of the job, sense of fun, and creativity opened up the world of music to us. I can still remember playing the 1812 Overature, and Mr. Landes arranging to have Mr. K blow up small hydrogen balloons like cannon blasts. Now that was a concert! Even after we left Churchill, he would arrange for kids that were interested to play in the Jazz Festival parade just so we could...

John, 54 years ago our family moved to a home on Anita Ave. At that time we had two children-Candy age 3 and Steven age 1. Our neighbors were June and Richard Landes. They had a newborn son, John. This was the beginning of a lasting friendship.
From the time you and Steven could navigate the distance between our homes you were inseperable. You were family, John, and we could always count on you to bring fun & laughter to our family gatherings.
As a child, you were always...
