We celebrate the life and mourn the passing of John B. Lavelle on Monday August 28th 2017 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

A loving husband, father and patriot, John was born to Sara and Leo Lavelle in Fairmont, West Virginia on October 12th 1929.

Mr. Lavelle was a highly decorated career Marine Corp aviator. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary heroism among other commendations, he retired as Lt. Colonel after twenty-six years of service to his country. "Jacks'" love of flying continued his entire life. He was an extremely patriotic and remarkable man with an undying dedication to his family, his church and his friends.

Always humble in his accomplishments, "Jack" served tirelessly at his church and in his community. He was and will continue to be a role model for all those who knew him.

John is predeceased by his son, James in 2006, his wife Elaine (Vandevender) in 1995 and his wife Mary (Connelly) in 2003.

He is survived by his children, Suzan Ambs of Kissimmee, Fl. Andrew Lavelle of Viera, Fl. Tom, Tim and Theresa Lavelle of New Orleans, LA. Susan Connelly of Boulder CO. Michael Connelly of Tampa, FL. Paul Connelly of Nashville, TN. Bob Connelly of Boston, MA. Ellen Connelly Taaffe of Wilmette, IL. and Jane Connelly Davis of Seattle, WA.

Funeral services for John B. Lavelle will be held at 9:30 am. on Saturday the 16th of September at St. Thomas More Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive Sarasota, FL 34231.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Lighthouse of Manasota 7318 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34243.
