John Ellsworth Leppert, Jr died on August 13, 2016 at Genisis in Westfield.

Funeral will be on Friday August 19, 2016, 10 am from All Saints Episcopal Church
Park Ave, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Thursday August 18 from 4-8pm at
the Rossi Funeral Home 1937 Westfield Avenue Scotch Plains. Interment B/G William
C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.

John was born on July 24 1926 in New Brunswick NJ to John Ellsworth Leppert and
Christine Lachenmayer. He grew up in South River, NJ graduating from South River High
in 1944. After graduation he enlisted in Naval Air Corps and spent two years training in Florida,
California and Hawaii, after which World War II had ended. His lifetime objective of a Rutgers
University education began in 1946 as a chemistry major. His time as a walk on for the football
team was short lived, since his labs interfered with football practices. His love of football was satisfied
with his participation in the Sunday games of the Perth Amboy Semi-Pros for which he was paid $25
a game. Graduation from Rutgers enabled him to work first for Squibb Pharmaceuticals and then for
Colloid Chemical in Cedar Knolls. Here he started the lab but rose to president and major owner.
They made resins for brake linings out of cashew nut shell liquid. John was a home-body who loved
gardening, building and refinishing furniture, and doing all the maintenance for his home. However,
when needed, he stepped up to the plate as a Cub Scout Chairman and President of the Blue Raider
Athletic Booster Club. He and his wife sold candy, hot dogs and sandwiches at every athletic event for a year
to raise the money for a universal gym, sorely lacking at the high school.

He is survived by his beloved wife Marie, his children Bonnie Jean and Timothy ( Elaine ), caring grandsons Daniel (Michelle) and Jeffrey and two cherished great grandchildren Connor and Emmet. Sisters Dorothy Stelmaszek
